When we had exhausted all baby subjects and Mya’s contractions subsided, we crept down the stairs to listen. We stood by the living room entryway, just beyond the group’s sight. However, if anyone walked through, they would spot us right away. The room was flooded with sunlight from the tall windows, making the area cheerful and bright. It was in complete contrast to our current moods.

“I found several offshore accounts,” Greyson said. “But it looks like they were abandoned. Only a few dollars are in each one. I’m not entirely sure they’re Alfonso’s. It could have been Sergio’s father’s or brother’s. I could research more, but I have a feeling I won’t get much further.”

“I’ve contacted the authorities,” Jenna said. “Most were unhelpful. I’ve been told that someone would contact me. But it sounded more like I was being added to a very long list.”

“Hopefully someone will contact you soon,” Greyson said. “We have to press on with or without them. Ian, what did you find?”

“Too much, actually. I knew Vegas had warehouses and abandoned buildings, but I never knew how many until now.”

I took Mya’s hand and squeezed it. This was not good news.

“Were you able to narrow it down at all?” Greyson asked.

“Well, I just started. I have over one hundred listings, and I’ve narrowed it down to just over sixty.”

“That’s still too many,” Greyson sad.

“Especially since they might not even be at one of those locations,” Jenna added.

“Listening in?”

Mya and I turned around to find Gwen had snuck up from behind us. I had been under the impression that she was in the room with the others. She wasn’t shocked to see us standing at the doorway.

“Yes, and it doesn’t sound good,” I said.

“I’m sorry,” she said, gathering her blonde hair into a ponytail. “I was sure that they would figure out something.”

“All they know is what we’ve always known. Alfonso could be anywhere.”

“Well, he’s not here at least,” she said. “It’s been quiet all morning.”

“Too quiet,” I agreed.

“You don’t think Alfonso decided he had enough revenge after kidnapping the others?” Mya asked, her hand gripping mine.

“He doesn’t seem the type to give up,” I said.

“It’s too bad we don’t have Sergio’s information on Alfonso,” Gwen said. “Even a small clue would help.”

“He might have left information,” I said, thinking. “What if it’s in his room at the hotel? No one went inside to check. We just knocked on the door and left when there was no answer.”

“We should have scoured the room,” Mya said.

“We left in a panic,” Gwen said.

“So, do we go back?” Mya asked, hopeful.

Gwen and I looked at each other. It was possible to go back, but would the rewards outweigh the risks?

“I think this needs to be a group decision,” Gwen said. “If anyone leaves, they could be abducted.”

“Hello,” Greyson said, interrupting the conversation. “What does the group need to decide?”

“If it’s worth going back to the hotel,” Gwen said.

“Sergio might have information in his room,” I added.

“It’s not a good idea to leave,” Greyson said.
